#Refugees4Refugees

Back in the now distant past the Vienna Happiness Project had a cunning plan to have unemployed people in Austria reporting each morning in a "sales meeting" format on what value they had created in their community the day before, and what their plans for the day and the coming month ahead were. The idea that being in a project team, they would feel more "employed" and useful and happy to talk to their friends about their "work". It might or would also make them more employable in the future, and more likely to "get a job from a job"

Fast forward to last week where we were looking to set up a Vienna Hub Verein to get people working with fast internet here to load gofundme campaigns and create websites for African non profits... as well as to help the likes of Hangi and Belinda tailor their job adverts to their new locations ( Edmonton and South West England) and to seek support from the UNHCR  Refugee-led Innovation Fund.

Then with some swift pivoting, we kind of changed the plan, and are working to set up a refugee led organisation in Vienna, #Refugees4Refugees, that applies for funding both for itself here and for others abroad as well as guiding them with personal experience gained by people like Akon, Shaam, Christine, and Aladin.

After some early morning zooming to Kenya with Akon, which reminds of us of why we set up Women with Passion in the first place, we hope that she will become a key player in this, and an active community member of The Learning Street, as she pursues her career ambitions of study, travel and work, as well as having a fulfilling personal life for balance.

I think we can try some readers theatre based on this 2 person script,

Readers Theatre Script for two, in English,
adapted from “Ilvie Little and the fearless sailors” by Susanne Stemmer

Leonie meets Ilvie ( and Theo ) p17-19

L. I'm Leonie. And who are you ?
I. My name is Ilvie, and this is my friend Theo. We just wanted to stop for a while. May we sit down next to you?
L. Yes, of course! I'm very happy to meet you. Here, let me move these photos so you can sit down beside me.
I. Thank you. They look very interesting, what are they?
L. They are old photos of my great-grandmother. My family are sailors, and we all go to sea very early. My great grand-mother Grace was a very famous sailor, and a pirate!
I. That sounds fascinating! May I see?
L. Of course. Look, this is her first ship, the Anastasia!
I. Wow, how nice! Take a look, Theo. What a beautiful ship the Anastasia is!
L. Great-grandmother was so wise and so strong that she conquered all the other pirate captains!

Exploring the Anastasia p28-29

I. Come on Theo, I'll hold your hand. ... Wow! It's cool down here. L. Come on, take a look over here.
I. Where are you? I don't see you.
L. Here!

I. Oh! You scared me!
L. Sorry, I didn't mean to.! Look, this was the library. There are all kinds of books about

sailing and navigation, and a lot of old sea charts. It looks as if my great-grandmother were just here.

I. All the stuff that she left lying around is still here, that's fantastic.
L. That's my great-grandmother's old ship's lantern! Wait a minute, there must be matches here somewhere.
I. Oh my goodness! It's really beautiful. Leonie, we just have to find the treasure map and go to sea on the Anastasia! Is there any hint of where that map might be?
L. Hmm...I don't know. Many people have already tried to find the old map but so far nobody has succeeded. I really think the treasure map is lost.

The intention is to build to multiple
breakout rooms for small chats, lets say
30 Africans and 30 English and 30 Pakistanis in 15 breakout rooms of 6 people,

THE BIG PICTURE

 THE BIG PICTURE

As Thomas Power said at the launch of Vienna Hub in 2005, "...if you want to increase social capital, just go around and talk to everyone in the ( now virtual ) room."

Uzma Hafeez says "I am Uzma Hafeez. I am a Software Engineer, freelancer and Online Teacher. My mission is to empower 1 million people to earn $500 per month using their phones and computers. I believe that people should have the opportunity to take control of their financial futures and earn a fair and sustainable income."

Mohamed Anis says "We are a social impact enterprise re-skilling thousands of refugees into digital professionals... Having scaled from 5 to 1400 over the last 3 years, We are now on a mission to scale to 1 million refugee graduates by 2032.

The big picture at Vienna Hub is to have 1 million Africans (many trained by StepUpOne) connecting weekly for 25 minutes to 1 million Pakistanis (many trained by Uzma) in small breakout rooms of 6 people, 2 Africans, 2 Pakistanis and 2 Native English speakers. Growing to the even Bigger Picture of 10 million of each meeting weekly at the "water cooler" :-)
